Manifesto, de la banda bogotana ANTIPODA es un disco que fue lanzado en el año 2008, grabado y producido en Uppsala, Suecia, por Daniel Bergstrand, sin duda un trabajo joven y vital, quienes forman parte del proyecto logran por medio de estas manifestaciones transgredir todo tipo de límites, sonoros, plásticos, conceptuales y expositivos, los cuales logran sin duda una serie de sensaciones que producen que te entregas a él. La experiencia de “Manifesto” penetra profundamente en el cerebro es íntimamente espiritual y edificante. Musicalmente, el sonido es oscuro con obras de gran alcance dinámico, con una voz y mensajes líricos que sorprenden. Si usted se está cuestionando acerca de dicotomías emocionales canciones como “beyond” lo harán reflexionar sobre una existencia espiritual difícil de alcanzar. Sobra decir que en todo el disco hay una belleza oscura y una brutal carga emocional implícita dentro de la música y las letras, es un album que vale la pena tener, una pieza del rock colombiano que se destaca por el gran trabajo que tiene de transfondo, en lo personal lo he disfrutado mucho y lo conservo como una de mis obras musicales favoritas.

CULTURA JUVENIL.. CULTURA DE ROCK!

Pasar por obstáculos, ir dejando en el camino personas que quizás no tuvieron el mismo compromiso de quienes forjaron hoy la banda, entrega, perseverancia, lucha, compromiso, dedicación, amor al verdadero rock, tener fijado un plan y hacer buena música, son algunas características que identifican a MANIFIESTO, quien a través de canciones como Ocaso, De noche, Detrás de ti, etc., han desarrollando un gran trabajo y experiencia musical, han plasmado las problemáticas de nuestro país, y han compartido sus propias vivencias. No creo que se trate de contar paso a paso el desarrollo musical que han tenido, eso se puede obtener en Mr Google, tampoco de utilizar un gran léxico y echar flores y flores, mis palabras no serán rosa, pero tampoco oscuras, solo se trata de expresar que en Colombia, que en Bogotá se puede hacer buena musica, se contribuye y se hace buen rock… MANIFESTAR lo que se cree, lo que se vive, lo que se apoya... Eso es CULTURA!

El 13 de octubre de 2009 en un bar de la zona rosa de Bogotá, después de 10 años de trabajo ANTIPODA junto con su productor Daniel Bergstrand, hacen el lanzamiento de su primer proyecto discográfico “MANIFESTO” creado en una serie de sesión de grabaciones durante los dos primero meses del 2008 en los estudios de Dug Out productions en Uppsala, Suecia, Bergstrand. El álbum presenta ocho temas de los cuales tres de sus mejores canciones (Beyond, The Zest For Dreaming, Scarred) ya están sonando en la radio colombiana. Manifestó es un álbum, que atrae no solo a los metaleros y roqueros si no a todo tipo de personas, pues tienen canciones con tan excelente música y letras.
Esperamos verlos nuevamente en el próximo rock al parque, y claro que sus éxitos sean cada vez más escuchados por todos.

Reseña de Manifesto, Antipoda.

El principal reto al escribir una reseña sobre Manifesto, el esperadísimo debut de la banda bogotana Antípoda, recae en evadir la tentación de centrarse en las quijotescas historias que rodean la concepción y puesta en marcha de un proyecto difícil, que quizás todos quienes empuñan un instrumento sueñan con emprender, pero claudican sin empezar a causa de una escena local plagada de costumbres viciadas y los obstáculos más difíciles de sortear: los que residen en uno mismo.

Sin duda es fácil rendirse ante la tentación, pero resultaría injusto diluir los sobrados méritos de Manifesto en historias loables. Antípoda ha logrado un álbum compacto, generoso en texturas y momentos de un intimismo tan oscuro como exquisito. Lograr un sonido propio en una primera entrega resulta una tarea compleja, y es aquí precisamente donde Antípoda juega su mejor carta. Grabado enteramente en Suecia y bajo la supervisión de Daniel Bergstrand (Meshuggah, In Flames, Behemoth) tras las perillas, Manifesto es un compendio de influencias reconocibles, pero destiladas en un sonido sorprendente y actual.

Beyond, canción de apertura, Sooner or Later y la magnífica The Zest For Dreaming dan buena cuenta en lo que respecta al trabajo de las guitarras en Manifesto, ejecutadas con precisión y un instinto que ofrece una sensación envolvente y en constante metamorfosis. La sección rítmica funciona como el hilo que lo une todo: el bajo robusto actúa a bordo de una percusión que se permite libertades de estilo y ejecución. Prueba de ello resultan cortes como Cynical Cyanide, Despair Call y Scarred, que junto Almost, de estupendo estribillo, e Instant Penitence, entregan los momentos más acerados del álbum. La interpretación vocal se erige en uno de los puntos más altos de Manifesto: Øyvind Osa (El Caco), vocalista de sesión de origen noruego, catapulta las melancólicas letras a un nivel insospechado, completando canciones que funcionan a varios niveles. Cabe anotar que Leonard Villalobos, vocalista oficial de la banda, es el llamado a traducir dignamente en tarima el trabajo que Øyvind ha dejado plasmado en estudio.

Los mejores detalles aparecen con cada pasada de Manifesto, un disco que es tanto la culminación de un objetivo de resultados notables, como el prometedor principio de una nueva etapa para los colombianos Antípoda, quienes han dejado constancia de sus aventuras en el dvd anexo al álbum; un buen testimonio de autogestión: el revestimiento esencial para las ideas que valen la pena echar a volar.

Studio diaries 5: Lead Guitar Sessions

"I had a rough idea of what I was looking for. Daniel took all the ideas and squeezed the best out of them !"

We can say that we really spent a lot of time doing guitars in this album. We worked out riffs, we did orchestration, and we then added some spice and cool arrangements and finally worked out the solos.

Although the songs were cool without solos, there were lots of incredible ideas that Jose had in mind for them, some since we started writing and others were worked out by Jose during the rhythm and orchestration sessions. We didn't want to go towards the "virtuoso" kind of solo. We wanted just the opposite: raw, tearing solos that could kick the atmosphere at the end of some songs. So we simply started to play around.

Once again, we let ourselves be guided by the music. We experimented and had fun until finally we found the right mood for each song. There were countless options to consider in every part and Daniel was really clever to identify the ones that worked best. He pointed our ears in the right direction again and again. The result, well… you judge for yourselves!!!

We've got two more Studio Diaries episodes coming : Vocal Sessions by Øyvind Osa (probably the one that many of you have been expecting for quite long) and Overdub Sessions by Daniel Bergstrand.... They will be available very soon !!!

Studio Diaries 4 - Bass Sessions

JD says, that a new bass sound concept was born with Daniel's help!!!

The whole bass session went pretty fast. We had the clock ticking on our necks when Juancho started kicking his week.

The bass sound was a huge surprise. Starting with the equipment, they were using a pretty unusual setup, but as always with Daniel, it turns up to boost everything. They worked out lots of new harmonies and arrangements to the already recorded material.

You can see Juancho's "cake face" when they finished setting up the bass sound with Daniel :

"I never thought that the bass could sound with such power, its hell of a ROAR. Because of the lack of time, the bass session had a lot of pressure, but the ideas made their way out and what a way!!! Daniel was looking for a new approach not only sound-wise but he also ment to find a new concept for the bass playing and and its roll inside the band."

Studio Diaries 3 - Rhythm Guitars

"The guitar sound is massive, it really sounds -- in your face --"

Once the drums were finished we hit the rhythm guitars, Maciek's part of the story.

We experimented with distinct configurations of analog pedals together with different amps. It is not easy at all to find the right sound, there are so many variables that can take you into cool sounds, choosing the right one is kinda tricky.

The rhythm guitars took one whole week to be recorded working really hard together with Daniel and Jose. There were lots of cool arrangements in the drums, so we always wondered how to boost them with guitars, which in many cases proved to be a real challenge. We didn't stop until we felt completely satisfied.

One great aspect is that every theme has it's own character, not only because we tried to play with different intentions, but because there are lots of arrangements, as Jose will explain in the next issue of the Studio Diaries.

As with drums, the guitar sessions finished far beyond our expectations. Working with Daniel was an incredible experience. He always kept the coolest attitude and this made us push ourselves more and more in every new theme.

Studio Diaries 2 - Drum Session

"We've got amazing drums ! With the drums so tight, the rest should go smoothly"

were Daniel words after the drum session. And hell, yes ! we would never dream with a drum sound like that. Just to show that life doesn't lack a sense of irony, sleep was the only thing we wouldn't get for the next weeks.

We left Colombia armed with nothing else than a good snare and a couple of cymbals. It was clear that Arturo would have to adapt to whatever we could get in Sweden. This turned out to be actually great, it opened the mind of everyone to experiment with things that we would probably never considered if we had the chance to take Arturo's drum set from Colombia. It was the first proven fact that showed us what might happen if stayed open minded all the way.

Together with the sound, the enthusiasm grew day by day as Daniel worked out cool arrangements, and came with new ideas to blend into the whole thing. The result, well you will have to judge by yourselves when the time comes, till then we have the second video of the "Studio Diaries" series.

In Arturo's words :

"We started improvising and experimenting with the drum set, we used low-endy kick and toms searching for a kind of powerful vintage and acoustic sound. During the recording Daniel evaluated every break, rhythm, sound and ensured the groove of every section, giving me the opportunity to improvise. At the end, this has been the mos incredible experience in my professional life."

Well, it seems we finally made it to Dug-Out in Sweden. There was quite a lot of things to sort out before we could even dream about this. We had to become managers, business men, currency exchange experts, lawyers and at the very last ... musicians !!

We traveled the new year's eve and it looked like a really cool way of ending/starting the year. It was for us the end of the first phase of the project and the beginning of the second, which in turn is way more challenging: starting the our album with an amazing person and producer, Daniel Bergstrand.

Antípoda en Dug-Out

Hola a todos !!! Finalmente Antípoda se encuentra en Dug-Out Productions en Uppsala, Suecia. El proyecto que llevamos ya más de un año planeando, se ha hecho realidad y en este momento la banda se encuentra grabando con el productor sueco Daniel Bergstrand, conocido por su increíble trabajo con bandas como Meshuggah, Soilwork, In Flames, Dark Funeral, Darkane, Stonegard y otros.

El trabajo ha sido muy intenso, se trabaja cerca de 16 a 20 horas al día y la producción total llevará un tiempo de 5 semanas. Daniel, además de ser una persona increíble es un profesional extraordinario en su campo, el trabajo es completamente fluido y motivante. Trataremos de mantenerlos actualizados en este, nuestro blog, estamos bien y muy contentos.

Muchas gracias por su apoyo, sería imposible estar aquí de no ser por ustedes !!!!

Cuenta regresiva para el viaje a Suecia

Con la producción del concierto desconectado, comenzamos una nueva y emocionante etapa de preparación en nuestra carrera como grupo. Como muchos de ustedes saben, nuestro viaje estaba planeado para el día 26 de Octubre 2007, sin embargo decidimos posponer la fecha con el fin de completar algunos documentos requeridos por la embajada de Suecia y no tener contratiempos.

Al no tener certeza de poder contar con dichos documentos antes del 26 de Octubre, nos decidimos por obtener otra fecha en Dug-out Productions y obtuvimos nuestro nuevo cronograma para el día 2 de Enero 2008. Esto nos da tiempo para adelantar varias tareas y estar más tranquilos en Suecia.

Por lo pronto todo va sobre ruedas y continuamos con todas nuestras tareas pro-viaje.

Agradecemos a todos nuestros amigos, quienes de una manera u otra contribuyeron a hacer del desconectado un éxito total. En linea están disponibles las fotos del concierto, y muy pronto publicaremos varios clips de video.
